ethan says Fes is amazing.  The medina feels like a complete maze of hundreds of tiny streets.  Not cars are allowed in Fes' medina so it feels like an ancient city and there are lots of steps so there are nearly no motorcycles - unlike Marrakesh.  It is simple to just wander the medina for hours looking at the endless shops and buildings.  Beware that you will be pestered to buy at nearly every corner and if you look lost, a small child will ask if you need directions.  You should note that he will either take you to a store where he gets paid or will expect a small payment.  My advice is to simply pay them - $0.50 or $1.00 for guidance in the endless streets is a cheap price to pay to avoid frustration.
