This thread will simply be about discussing things to do, see and eat in New Jersey. I will try to share my experiences, and welcome others to do the same.
First off, New Jersey is not all Superfund sites and mob hangouts. Yes, we have our fair share of those...actually, maybe more than a fair share now that I think about it...
Anyways, there's lots of stuff going on here, OK, and this forum will reveal the aforementioned 'stuff'.
So there, nyah.

Windmill is a Jersey institution. The Long Branch one is great because it actually looks like a windmill. The others are just regular-looking stores. We usually go to the one in Brick.

Good barbecue in New Jersey?
Sure, why not?
There are two places where I have had good barbecue. I'm sure these two are not the only good places, but I can only speak of what I know.
Last September, my wife and I took a flyer on Boyd's Texas Style Barbecue while doing a weekend getaway in Cape May. Located just outside of Cape May in the little town of Villas, Boyd's is run by a Jersey guy who lived out in Texas for 20+ years, learning about barbecue. Very friendly and talkative guy. The food was very good and pretty reasonable price-wise.
Closer to home...and I mean MUCH closer to home...like 3 minutes from our house, is eXtreme BBQ in lovely Forked River. This is good good stuff. The owner is also a Jersey guy but did a lot of traveling down South and out West. He was an amateur BBQ compeititor (and trophy winner) before opening his own place. The hot links, brisket and burnt ends are wonderful. Makes a very good chili as well.

METRO DOGS!!!
Those yummy, delicious hot dogs you get at Metrostars soccer matches in Giants Stadium (sorry. can't get with the new name... Red Bulls? Red Bull dogs? doesn't have the same ring). How can you beat it? Half time sprint to the concession stand (unlike giants games, nice short lines, since very few people go to the games, or even know the team exists for that matter). The bargain price of $5 (hey, you even get a free packet of brown spicy mustard!). And you can wash it down with a $7 plastic bottle of budweiser. Ah, the sweet taste of exploitation. But still, oh so yummy.
i travel, therefore i am.

Whenever my wife and I are at the Jersey Shore for a day trip in or around Point Pleasant I always insist on hitting Red's Lobster Pot. It's located on Inlet Drive in Point Pleasant Beach. It's one of best kept secrets at the shore. It's an old establishment that's been nicely maintained but has kept it's neighborhood feel. It's practically a one room building with nice table service inside and a covered walk-up w/ piknik benches for more casual outdoor eating. The restaurant sits right on the Manasquan River, so the view/atmosphere is great. No recommendations because it's all good... www.redslobsterpot.com
