Yushan (玉山 Yùshān) [1], also known as Jade Mountain, is the highest mountain in Taiwan (as well as all East Asia).
[edit] Understand[edit] History[edit] Landscape[edit] Flora and fauna[edit] Climate[edit] Get in[edit] Fees/PermitsClimbing Yushan requires both a park entry permit from the park authorities and a mountain climbing permit from the police. Both have to be applied for by mail well in advance, and knowledge of Chinese will come in very handy. An expat-run group,Barking Deer Adventures, can assist in the applying for the permit and trek logistics. That said, quite a few Westerners have managed to climb the peak with no permits, particularly when using the longer route from Tungpu. This runs the risk of being caught and fined, if a rescue is required all costs must be paid by the offender. [edit] Get around[edit] SeeIf you're content with just seeing Yushan, the best thing to do is to head over to neighboring Alishan and witness the famous sunrise from there. [edit] DoThere are two basic routes to the top:
