New South Wales > Central Coast (New South Wales) > Woy Woy -->
Woy Woy is a coastal village 40 km north of Sydney in the Central Coast region of New South Wales, Australia. The name is apparently taken from the local aboriginals of the area, the Darkinjung tribe. The words reputedly mean "deep water", referring to the deep tidal channel adjacent the town centre, but as Spike Milligan [1] once asked "which Woy means Deep and which Woy means Water?".
[edit] UnderstandA long term resident was asked "why is this town called Woy Woy?" Their reply was "well well it's it's because because.......!" [edit] Get inWoy Woy is on the main Northern railway line. Most services from Sydney Central via Strathfield, Epping, and Hornsby to Gosford and Newcastle stop at Woy Woy. Magnificent views of parts of the Hawkesbury River which are not accessible by road transport add to the enjoyment of the rail trip. [edit] Get around[edit] See
