Travemünde [1] is a borough of Lübeck and a sea resort which is very famous with families. Travemünde is a harbour town where daily passenger and cargo ferries leaves to Scandinavia & the Baltic states. Originally Travemünde was a small fisher village but it's position at the river Trave & the proximity to Lübeck let it grew to a smaller harbour town. Today tourism is the main source of employment and income. The old town maintained it's sleepy character despite the fact that at weekends there are loads of tourists.
[edit] Get in[edit] By trainAlmost every hour a train from Lübeck main station goes to Travemünde. On weekends much more trains & people arrive. [edit] By carVia Autobahn A1 (till crossing Bad Schwartau then A226 or B75) Travemünde is directly connected to Lübeck (20min) and Hamburg (1h). [edit] By busBus lines 30, 31 and 33 from Lübeck drive regular to Travemünde. Public transport tickets from Lübeck can include Travemünde. [edit] By boatTT-Line operates daily ferry trips between Travemünde and Trelleborg, Sweden. During the summer time and on public holidays the ferries are very well booked. Make sure you have a reservation. [edit] Get aroundThe main street and the sea promenade of Travemünde is only for pedestrians. There are buses that run the town. [edit] Buy[edit] EatThere are countless restaurants in summer but during the week and off season most places are closed. [edit] DrinkThe Casino is the place to be for wearing your neat suits or dresses. [edit] SleepThere are a lot of holiday apartements for rent. During summer this town is very busy and reservations are essential. If you don't plan to stay for at least a week, hotels are an other option [edit] BudgetIf you are on budget, better stay in Lübeck because Travemünde isn't cheap and variety is much smaller.
