Palm Islands are the three largest artificial islands in the world. They are located in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
[edit] UnderstandThe Palm Jumeirah is located off the coast of Dubai in the United Arab Emirates. It is 5km square, adding 78km to Dubai's coastlines. This island is the first chapter of the Palm Trilogy and is expected to attract around 20,000 visitors daily and will be able to accommodate 250,000 people.
[edit] EnvironmentWhile creating the Palm Jumeirah, over 20 different authorities were brought in to do research on the environments and possible effects from the island. Strict policies were put into act, including contractor inspections and audits. Environmental friendly technologies have also been installed, such as solar panels, installation, and double glasing. The Palm Jumeirah strives to be a positive addition to the environment. [edit] OrientationThe Trunk is 2km long. It is a vigorous residence, shopping, and tourism destination, and features upscale housing, hotels, marinas, shops, and restaurants. The Crescent is 11km long and creates a beautiful breakwater to the trunk and the fronds. The Fronds (of which there will be 17) are for beachfront residences. [edit] Get inThe trunk of the island is connected to the mainland by the Gateway Bridge and the monorail. [edit] Get aroundThe Palm Monorail will be available for residents and visitors and will run from the Gateway Station at the trunk to the Atlantis Station on the crescent. It will be 5.4km long and have two intermediate stops: at the Trump International Hotel and Tower, and the Luxury Retail Centre. The Sub-Sea Tunnel will be the chief form of transportation throughout the island; it connects the main body to the crescent. It will be 1.4km long and provide three lanes of traffic in each direction together with a service/emergency cell in the middle. [edit] See[edit] DoThe new island will include six marinas that are adult and children friendly alike. There will be a water theme park called "Sea Village" that will feature many rides and attractions with a sea life theme, and a board walk that is part of the "palm".
