Gjirokaster is in Albania.

Buses on the route Sarandë-Gjirokastër(200 leke) stop hourly at the bottom of the hill.
Buses and minibuses also go to Tirana (2000 leke).

It's a small town and can be walked around quite easily. Taxis are cheap. The centre of town to the bus station in a taxi costs 200 leke
- The castle at the top of the hill, 200 leke entrance. It's falling apart a bit but still fascinating to wander around. Also holds an exposition of Enver Hoxha's army's cannons.
- Ethnographic museum
- Old bazaar and historic tower homes characteristic of Ottoman-era cities.
- Illyrian city of Antigonea
- Hotel Kalemi [1]. Reliable electricity (partly solar), central heating and constant hot water. Some rooms have traditional design featuers, others are of modern design. All rooms have private bathrooms and television, some have air-conditioning, views, and balconies. (Payment can be made by cash only in Albanian lek, Euros or US Dollars.)
