Smoo Cave

Durness is a seaside village in the north coast of Highlands.

• Single track road along the north coast.
• Bus from Inverness, operated by Tim Dearman Coaches, once a day, Monday to Saturday.
• The Royal Mail postbus can pick you up from Lairg train station (it meets the train). Operates Mon - Sat.
• The highland council run a subsidised bus to/from Inverness which operates once a fortnight

• visit Smoo Cave

• watch wildlife: sea birds (including puffins north of Durness), seals and porpoises.

There is tourist information centre by the road.

• take a boat trip for whale spotting

• walk along the beaches

• walk to Faraidh Head - often good close-up views of seals in the rock pools. At the correct season eider ducks swimming in with their ducklings from far away make an impressive and memorable sight.

• There is a well stocked local Spar which doubles as the post office.

There is a pub.

There is a camping up on the cliff over Sango Bay. There are also several B&Bs in the village.
