Netherlands > Overijssel > Deventer -->
Deventer is an old city in the Dutch province of Overijssel.
[edit] UnderstandIn medieval times, Deventer was, thanks largely to its location along the river IJssel, a very important and wealthy city, a member of the Hanseatic League. Many of the buildings erected in those glory days still remain. [edit] Get in[edit] By carFrom Amsterdam, Deventer can be reached via the A1. [edit] By trainDirect intercity services connect Deventer to Amsterdam as well as Schiphol Airport. In both cases, the journey will take about 90 minutes. [edit] Get around[edit] SeeThe oldest part of the town, just south of the railway station, still contains many medieval buildings. Just walking around the compact centre there will be plenty to look at, but particularly attractive are the following:
[edit] Dogo up the bell tower in the church for some amazing views (head for hieghts needed)see the bullit holes in the walls outside. deventer has its own leaning tower of pizza well not so much a tower but a large building in the centrum square that leans over quite a lot see the bridge where the film "a bridge to far" was made (Arnhem was to modern to film there)although i don't remember the red light district being there in the film LOL see the motorcar museum [edit] BuyDEVENTER KOEK mmmmmmmmmmmm [edit] EatThe city's most famous foodstuff is "Deventer Koek", which can be bought in the Koekhuisje (Cookie House) at 84 Brink. [edit] Drinklots of places 2 sit outside watching the world go by drinking & chatting in the central square on a hot day(maybe the tower don't lean maybe it was me drinking to much) no it definatly leans !!! go down to the river near the bridge sit and watch the boats go by & have a coffee from the stall there [edit] Sleep[edit] Get outThe cities of Zutphen and Apeldoorn are just 15 km from Deventer.
